Transfer from Barcelona Airport to Andorra la Vella: route, journey time and vehicles

Andorra la Vella is about 200 km from Terminals 1 and 2 at El Prat. The usual route climbs the C-16 past Manresa and Berga, goes under the Cadí range through the 5 km Cadí tunnel and follows the N-260 to La Seu d'Urgell. From there the N-145 runs to the border post at La Farga de Moles and on to Sant Julià de Lòria. Without traffic the drive takes about 2 hours 45 minutes, and the C-16 and tunnel tolls are included in your price. Andorra has no airport of its own, and El Prat is one of the most common gateways for travellers arriving by air.

Snow or roadworks can affect the Cadí or the Cerdanya valley. The alternative runs through Manresa and Solsona to the C-14. It follows the Segre through Organyà to La Seu d'Urgell and usually adds about 20 minutes. In winter we check the roads before departure. We choose the route according to road conditions. Ski-season Fridays and the start of Spanish holiday weekends usually bring more traffic.

Andorra is outside both the European Union and the Schengen area, and there is a customs post at La Farga de Moles in each direction. Everyone in the car, children included, needs a passport or national ID card. On the way back, the queue to re-enter Spain gets long on Sunday afternoons and at the end of holiday weekends, so leave plenty of time if you have a flight that day. For a midday flight from El Prat, the pick-up in Andorra is usually early in the morning; we suggest a time when we confirm your booking.

We drive you to any of Andorra's parishes. Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany hold most of the hotels, the shops along Avinguda Meritxell and the Caldea spa. For skiing, Soldeu and El Tarter are about 20 km further up the CG-2, and Pas de la Casa sits on the far side of the Envalira pass, at 2,408 m, or of the toll tunnel beneath it. Arinsal and Pal, the two areas of Pal Arinsal, are in La Massana. The Grandvalira season normally runs from December to early April; each year's dates are published on grandvalira.com.

We recommend the S-Class for one or two people with ordinary luggage on this drive of almost three hours. The V-Class takes up to seven passengers. The minibus takes groups of 8 to 19. Tell us about your equipment when you book: a ski bag takes more room than a suitcase. We confirm space for skis, boards and boots when you book. We can stop along the way for a break or a coffee.

FAQ

Transfer to Andorra la Vella: frequently asked questions

What documents do I need to enter Andorra?

A valid passport or national ID card for everyone in the car, children included. Andorra is outside the Schengen area, so if you need a visa for Europe, make sure it allows multiple entries: driving back into Spain counts as a new entry into Schengen.

Can you take us straight to Soldeu, El Tarter or Pas de la Casa?

Yes, to the door of your hotel or apartment. From Andorra la Vella, Soldeu is about 25 minutes further and Pas de la Casa about 35, depending on conditions on the Envalira pass. Give us the exact address when you book and we include it in the fixed price.

What happens if it snows or the Cadí tunnel is closed?

We check road conditions before leaving. If the Cadí or the N-260 is difficult, we go via Solsona and the C-14 to La Seu d'Urgell, a route with no tunnel that usually adds about 20 minutes. If the weather means changing the departure time, we let you know by phone or WhatsApp.

Are there limits on what I can bring back from Andorra?

Yes. Leaving Andorra means passing customs, and tobacco, alcohol, perfume and some other goods have duty-free maximums. Check the current allowances on the Spanish tax agency (Agencia Tributaria) website and keep your receipts, as officers may ask for them.

Where will my chauffeur meet me?

In the arrivals hall, at the exit from baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. We track your flight and wait 1 h 15 min free of charge from landing, even if it is delayed. Extra waiting time is charged.

How much does the transfer from Barcelona Airport to Andorra la Vella cost?

It depends on the vehicle, the date and the time. We send you a fixed price before the trip, with tolls and luggage included, and a quote needs no prepayment. You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pick-up.

How long does the transfer from Barcelona Airport to Andorra la Vella take?

The journey covers about 200 km and takes roughly 2 h 45 min without traffic. Rush hour and high season add time, so allow for this when you choose your pick-up time if you have a flight or sailing to catch.
