Andorra la Vella is about 200 km from Barcelona-El Prat Airport, roughly 2 h 45 min by road via the C-16 motorway and the Cadí tunnel when traffic is light. Soldeu, El Tarter and Pas de la Casa in Grandvalira are about 3 hours away. Baqueira-Beret is about 4 hours over the Bonaigua pass, or a little longer via Lleida and the Vielha tunnel when the pass is closed. Everyone in the car needs a passport or EU national ID card to enter Andorra.
Distances and driving times from Barcelona Airport
These are driving times with no stops on clear roads. A Saturday in peak season or a day of heavy snow can add a lot more.

The road to Andorra: C-16, Cadí tunnel and La Seu d'Urgell
From Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, your chauffeur heads north on the C-16 past Terrassa, Manresa and Berga. Beyond Berga, the 5,026 m Cadí toll tunnel runs under the mountains and comes out in the Cerdanya valley. The N-260 then heads west to La Seu d'Urgell, and the N-145 climbs to the border post at La Farga de Moles. Inside Andorra, the CG-1 runs through Sant Julià de Lòria to Andorra la Vella. Tolls on the C-16 and the Cadí tunnel are included in the fixed price.
From the capital, each ski area has its own access road:
- Grandvalira: the CG-2 climbs through Encamp, Canillo, El Tarter and Soldeu to Grau Roig and the Envalira pass.
- Pal Arinsal: the CG-3 goes to La Massana and the CG-4 continues to Pal and Arinsal.
- Ordino Arcalís: the CG-3 continues through Ordino and El Serrat to the resort.
Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís, the resorts once marketed together as Vallnord, now share a season pass for Andorra's northern valleys, the Nord Pass.
When the Cadí or the Cerdanya is a problem
There is a route with no tunnel through Manresa and Solsona to the C-14, which follows the Segre valley up through Organyà and reaches La Seu d'Urgell from the south. It usually adds about 20 minutes.
Pas de la Casa via Puigcerdà and France
Pas de la Casa sits at the eastern tip of Andorra, and the quickest way there runs through France. After the Cadí tunnel the route continues to Puigcerdà, crosses into France at Bourg-Madame, goes through the Puymorens tunnel and enters Andorra on the N-22. The alternative crosses the whole country from La Farga de Moles and climbs the CG-2 to the Envalira tunnel or over the pass itself, at 2,408 m. It is longer and usually slower because of traffic in Andorra la Vella. For a Barcelona Airport to Pas de la Casa transfer, we choose between the two on the day.
The road to Baqueira-Beret
Baqueira is in the Val d'Aran, on the north side of the Pyrenees. The shortest route shares the Cadí tunnel and La Seu d'Urgell with the Andorra road, then continues to Sort and Esterri d'Àneu and climbs the C-28 to the Bonaigua pass at 2,072 m. In winter the Bonaigua often closes because of snow or avalanche risk.
When it is shut, your chauffeur takes the A-2 to Lleida and then the N-230 through Benabarre and El Pont de Suert, entering the valley through the Vielha tunnel. This is the route the resort itself gives for drivers coming from Barcelona. From Vielha it is about 14 km up the C-28 to Baqueira 1500. The detour adds about 45 km and half an hour. Snow chains, winter tyres and the rules in each country
The rules depend on the country, and on the Puigcerdà route to Pas de la Casa you drive through three.
- Andorra: the Andorran government's winter driving guide makes special snow equipment, such as winter tyres or chains, compulsory on every road from 1 November to 15 May. The Mobilitat traffic service grades each road by colour: on yellow the limit is 60 km/h, on red chains are compulsory for every vehicle, and on black the road is closed.
- Catalonia: the Catalan traffic service (Servei Català de Trànsit) can require chains or winter tyres on specific stretches when it snows.
- France requires winter equipment from 1 November to 31 March in listed mountain areas, including parts of the Pyrenees. Carry chains or snow socks for at least two driven wheels, or fit four 3PMSF winter tyres. The 3PMSF mark shows a mountain with three peaks and a snowflake. M+S alone does not meet this tyre requirement.

Border and customs at Andorra
Andorra is outside both the European Union and the Schengen area, with customs posts at La Farga de Moles and Pas de la Casa. EU citizens can enter with a valid national ID card or passport, children included. Everyone else needs a valid passport. If your nationality needs a Schengen visa, it must allow at least two entries, because coming back from Andorra means entering Schengen again.
On the way out, Spanish or French customs may check what you bought in Andorra. These are the per-person allowances published by Andorra's tourist board for 2026:

Travellers under 17 have no alcohol or tobacco allowance. EU member states can halve the industrial goods allowance for travellers under 15. Check the customs rules at your destination. Keep your receipts and declare anything above the limits.
Queues form at La Farga de Moles on Sunday afternoons and at the end of Spanish holiday weekends. Leave extra time for customs on the day of your flight.
Ski bags, boots and which vehicle to choose
A long ski bag takes more room than a suitcase and does not always fit in a saloon's boot. When you ask for a quote, tell us how many ski bags, snowboard bags and boot bags you have, as well as suitcases.

The Mercedes V-Class is the usual choice for families with skis. With seven passengers and seven long ski bags, check with us whether everything fits or whether the minibus is the better option. Child seats are free if you request them when you book.
When to fly and when to leave
Grandvalira plans to open the 2026-2027 season on 4 December 2026 and close it on 4 April 2027, snow permitting. Pal Arinsal, Ordino Arcalís and Baqueira-Beret publish their own dates on their websites.
Traffic towards the Pyrenees builds on Friday afternoons and Saturdays, when many apartments change over. Expect the same over the Spanish holiday weekend in early December, at Christmas, at Easter and during French school holidays. A morning arrival gets you to the resort in daylight.
Your chauffeur tracks your flight and meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign. You get 1 h 15 min of free waiting from the moment the plane lands. For the return, add the driving time, your airline's check-in deadline and a margin in case it snows. For a midday flight, request an early morning pick-up in Andorra. Scheduled bus or private chauffeur
Andorra Direct Bus runs several times a day from Terminals 1 and 2 to Andorra la Vella, and Andbus also stops at El Prat. The operator gives about 3 h 30 min between the airport and Andorra la Vella, and to reach Soldeu or Pas de la Casa you change to a local bus. Check timetables, fares and ski bag rules on each company's website, as they change every season.
