Transfer from Barcelona to Baqueira-Beret: route, journey time and vehicles
Baqueira-Beret is in the Val d'Aran, about 285 km from Barcelona on the shortest route. Your chauffeur heads north on the C-16 through the Cadí tunnel, follows the N-260 to La Seu d'Urgell and crosses the Cantó pass to Sort. From Esterri d'Àneu the C-28 climbs to the Bonaigua pass at 2,072 m and drops down to Baqueira. Without stops the drive takes about 4 hours. Tolls on the C-16 and the Cadí tunnel are included in the fixed price.
In winter the Bonaigua pass often closes because of snow or avalanche risk, and sometimes for roadworks. When it is shut we drive via Lleida and the N-230, through Benabarre and El Pont de Suert, and enter the valley through the Vielha tunnel; from Vielha it is about 14 km to Baqueira. The resort itself recommends this route, which adds about 45 km. Before setting off we check road conditions with the Catalan traffic service (Servei Català de Trànsit) and confirm the route and pick-up time with you.
The resort has several base areas: Baqueira 1500 by the gondola, Pla de Beret, and the Bonaigua side. If you are staying in Baqueira, Salardú, Arties or Vielha, we drop you at the door of your hotel or apartment. Aranese, a variety of Occitan, is an official language in the valley alongside Spanish and Catalan, and you will see it on the road signs. The ski season usually runs from December to April; check the opening dates on baqueira.es.
Skis, snowboards and boots take up a lot of room. The V-Class carries seven passengers and seven suitcases, but with ski bags it works better with fewer people on board. Large families and groups of friends travel in the minibus, with 8 to 19 seats. The S-Class suits two or three people who rent equipment at the resort or travel in summer. Tell us how many ski bags and boards you are bringing and we recommend the right vehicle.
If you are flying in, your chauffeur collects you at Barcelona Airport, tracks your flight and gives you 1 h 15 min of free waiting from landing. La Seu d'Urgell, a little over two hours from Barcelona, is a good place to stop for lunch or a break, though we stop wherever you need.
By public transport, ALSA runs scheduled buses from Barcelona to Vielha, where a local line continues up to Baqueira. With children and ski gear, a private transfer saves you the change of bus and drops you at your accommodation. In summer the Val d'Aran draws hikers and cyclists, and the service runs the same way all year.
