Transfer from Barcelona to Perpignan: route, journey time and vehicles

Perpignan is about 190 km from central Barcelona. Your chauffeur leaves the city on the Ronda Litoral and the C-33, heads north on the AP-7 past Girona and Figueres, and crosses into France at La Jonquera, where the motorway becomes the A9. From the border it is about 30 km to Perpignan. Without traffic the drive takes around two hours. The AP-7 has been toll-free in Catalonia since 2021, but the French A9 is a toll motorway, with the first barrier at Le Boulou a few kilometres past the border. That toll is already in the fixed price we confirm.

Spain and France are both in the Schengen area. French police can check documents at Le Perthus. Bring valid travel documents for every passenger, including children. Check entry requirements for your nationality before travel. If you need a visa or residence permit, check its validity for entry to France. Keep your documents within reach during the journey.

The high-speed train from Sants reaches Perpignan in a little under an hour and a half, which beats the road, but there are only a few direct trains a day. Check times on renfe.com and sncf-connect.com. If you travel alone and light, from station to station, the train works well. A car makes more sense for a group, when you are not going to Perpignan station itself, or when you land at El Prat. In that case your chauffeur meets you in the T1 or T2 arrivals hall with a name sign and drives straight onto the AP-7 without going through Barcelona. From T1 the distance is about 210 km.

The Castillet, a red-brick gate begun in 1368, leads into Perpignan's old town and houses the Casa Pairal museum of Catalan folk life. South of the old town stands the Palace of the Kings of Majorca, begun in 1276. Many central streets are pedestrianised; if your hotel is on one, your chauffeur stops at the nearest accessible point and helps with the cases. For the coast you do not need to enter the city. Collioure, about 195 km from Barcelona, is reached from the Le Boulou exit, and Canet-en-Roussillon beach is about 14 km from central Perpignan. Perpignan-Rivesaltes airport lies north-west of the city.

In July and August, Saturdays especially, the AP-7 and A9 fill up near the border. Bison Futé, France's official traffic information service, publishes forecasts on bison-fute.gouv.fr, and we use them to set your departure time. The Mercedes E-Class carries up to 3 passengers with 3 suitcases. On a business trip where you want to work or rest in the back, choose the S-Class. Families and groups of up to 7 with luggage travel in the V-Class, and groups of 8 to 19 in the minibus. To go and come back the same day, book the hourly service: your chauffeur waits in Perpignan and drives you back to Barcelona.

FAQ

Transfer to Perpignan: frequently asked questions

What documents do I need to cross into France?

Every passenger, children included, needs a valid passport or national ID card. Non-EU nationals should carry their passport and the visa or residence permit they use in Schengen. France runs checks at the Le Perthus crossing and can ask everyone in the car for documents.

Can you collect me at Barcelona Airport and drive me to Perpignan?

Yes. We track your flight, and your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign, with 1 h 15 min of free waiting from landing. From T1 it is about 210 km, roughly 2 h 15 min without traffic.

Is the train or a chauffeur better for Perpignan?

If you are alone and going from Sants to Perpignan station, the high-speed train is faster. A chauffeur makes sense for groups, heavy luggage, arrivals at El Prat, or trips to Collioure, Argelès-sur-Mer or a house outside the city, because you go door to door with no changes.

Can we stop in Figueres on the way?

Yes. Figueres and the Dalí Theatre-Museum are just off the AP-7, about 60 km before Perpignan. Tell us the stops you want when you ask for a quote and we include them in the fixed price.

Where will my chauffeur meet me?

At the pick-up point agreed when you book. Your chauffeur lets you know when the car arrives. We include 15 minutes of courtesy waiting from the agreed pick-up time. We charge for extra waiting.

How much does the transfer from Barcelona to Perpignan cost?

It depends on the vehicle, the date and the time. We send you a fixed price before the trip, with tolls and luggage included, and a quote needs no prepayment. You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pick-up.

How long does the transfer from Barcelona to Perpignan take?

The journey covers about 190 km and takes roughly 2 h without traffic. Rush hour and high season add time, so allow for this when you choose your pick-up time if you have a flight or sailing to catch.
