Transfer from Barcelona to Figueres: route, journey time and vehicles
Figueres is about 140 km from Barcelona. Your chauffeur leaves on the Ronda Litoral and the C-33, then heads north on the AP-7 to Figueres. Without traffic the drive takes around an hour and a half. Since 2021 the AP-7 between Tarragona and La Jonquera has been toll-free.
The Dalí Theatre-Museum stands on the site of Figueres' old municipal theatre, and you will spot it by its red facade topped with giant eggs. A full visit takes between an hour and a half and two hours. The Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation advises booking tickets in advance, because entry at the desk depends on capacity. The museum sits in a restricted-traffic zone, so your chauffeur drops you at the nearest access point and collects you there at the agreed time. Sant Ferran Castle, an 18th-century fortress, is close by.
By train you have two options: the R11 Rodalies service from Sants, which stops at Figueres' central station, or the high-speed line to Figueres-Vilafant, outside the town centre. With a chauffeur you leave from your hotel door, reach the museum without changes and can carry on to the coast without watching a timetable.
From Figueres, Cadaqués is about 35 km away on the C-260 and the GI-614, a road with plenty of bends on the final stretch; allow about 45 minutes. A few minutes from Cadaqués is the Portlligat House-Museum, where Dalí lived. You must book a date and time slot, and collect your ticket half an hour before the visit. Púbol Castle, which Dalí bought for Gala, is about 40 km south of Figueres.
In the centre of Figueres, a few minutes' walk from the museum, the Rambla is home to the Catalan Toy Museum (Museu del Joguet de Catalunya). If you enjoy wine, the DO Empordà has wineries between Figueres and the coast that welcome visitors by appointment.
