Transfer from Barcelona Airport to Olot: route, journey time and vehicles
Olot is about 125 km from El Prat. Your chauffeur skirts Barcelona on the Ronda de Dalt, heads north on the C-33 and C-17 to Vic, then takes the C-37 through the Bracons tunnels and down into the Vall d'en Bas. Without traffic the drive takes about 1 hour 45 minutes. The alternative is the AP-7 to Girona and the A-26 via Besalú; it is longer, but it suits you if you want to stop at the medieval village on the way.
Olot has no railway station. Teisa runs direct buses from central Barcelona; check current times on the Teisa website. From the airport, you first travel into the city to catch a bus. A chauffeur takes you from arrivals to your accommodation. Request your pick-up in advance so we confirm availability. We also provide transfers from Girona-Costa Brava Airport, about 55 km from Olot.
Olot is inside the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. The Montsacopa volcano rises within the town itself, and the Croscat, the Santa Margarida crater and the Fageda d'en Jordà beech forest are a few kilometres away. Castellfollit de la Roca, perched on its basalt cliff, Santa Pau and Besalú are all less than half an hour's drive. In autumn the beech forest turns colour and draws the most visitors.
Much of the accommodation in the Garrotxa is in farmhouses (masies) and rural cottages reached by narrow or unpaved lanes. Send us the exact address, any directions the owners gave you and a contact number. For a group heading to a farmhouse with difficult access, we recommend a minibus instead of a coach, or a coach drop at the nearest accessible point.
In winter, fog and frost often cover the Plana de Vic early in the morning, and the C-37 can have icy patches on the coldest days. If you fly home in winter, we suggest leaving with a margin. In spring and autumn many groups come to walk among the volcanoes or cycle the Carrilet greenway towards Girona.
