Transfer from Barcelona Airport to Calella: route, journey time and vehicles
Calella is about 74 km from the airport, around 50 minutes without traffic. Your chauffeur crosses Barcelona on the Ronda Litoral (B-10), joins the C-32 at Montgat and leaves it at the Calella exit, which drops straight down into town. This section of the C-32 has been toll-free since 2021. On the N-II, which runs through the middle of every coastal town, the same trip takes much longer.
Calella calls itself the tourist capital of the Maresme coast. It has about 3 km of beaches, including Platja Gran and Garbí, and a town centre with shopping streets. To the south, on the rocks, stands the lighthouse, first lit in 1859 and now home to a visitor centre. On the hill behind it, at 118 metres, are Les Torretes, two half-ruined towers used for optical telegraph signalling in the 19th century, with a wide view of the coast.
The N-II and the railway run through Calella parallel to the beach, and many streets in the centre are one-way or pedestrianised. If your hotel is in a pedestrian zone, your chauffeur stops at the nearest access point and helps you with your bags. In early October Calella hosts IRONMAN Calella-Barcelona: a 3.8 km swim, 180 km on the bike and a marathon, with thousands of triathletes. Two or three athletes with bikes usually travel in the V-Class, and a club in a minibus. Roads in the area close on race days, so book your airport return with time to spare.
Don't confuse Calella with Calella de Palafrugell, a village on the Costa Brava in the Baix Empordà. From the airport that other Calella is about 140 km away, nearly twice as far. If you are staying there, tell us when you book so we can adjust the price and pick-up time.
A couple travels comfortably in the Mercedes E-Class. Families and groups of up to 7 ride in the V-Class, and school trips, choirs and sports teams travel by minibus (8 to 19 seats) or coach (20 to 55). By train you change in Barcelona from the R2 Nord airport line to the R1 Rodalies coast line, carrying your bags; check timetables at rodalies.gencat.cat.
