Wedding transport in Barcelona and Catalonia comes down to two jobs: a car with a private chauffeur for the couple, and shuttles that move your guests between hotel, ceremony and reception. If you are planning from abroad, the details that catch couples out are the drive times to the venue, whether a coach can reach the door, and how guests get back at 2 a.m.
Which vehicles a wedding needs
| Who | Vehicle | Capacity | Used for |
|---|---|---|---|
| The couple | Mercedes S-Class | 2–3 passengers | Arrival at the ceremony, photos, ride to the reception |
| Parents, witnesses, best man or maid of honour | Mercedes E-Class | Up to 3 passengers | Second car on the same schedule as the couple |
| Close family or guests with children | Mercedes V-Class | Up to 7 passengers | A small group from one hotel or a private villa |
| Guests | Minibus | 8–19 passengers | One hotel or a mid-sized group |
| Guests | Coach | 20–55 passengers | All guests from a single pick-up point |
For 120 guests, two 55-seat coaches carry 110 people. Add a minibus with at least ten passenger seats. Book the S-Class separately for the couple. For 40 guests, three 19-seat minibuses provide enough seats. Two 19-seat minibuses carry only 38 people. Check the access road with your venue before you choose the vehicles.
The couple's car
For the couple we suggest the Mercedes S-Class with chauffeur. It seats the two of you plus one more, such as the person walking one of you down the aisle. The Mercedes E-Class is the more understated choice and works well as a second car for parents. We do not offer stretch limousines or vintage cars.
The couple's car rarely does a single run. It collects you from home or the hotel, waits through the ceremony, stops wherever your photographer wants you and takes you on to the reception. That is why we usually book it as an hourly chauffeur service: car and chauffeur stay with you for the hours booked. On a simple transfer the courtesy wait is 15 minutes from the agreed time, and a ceremony that overruns uses that up quickly. Hours beyond the booking are charged as extra time. Our wedding car hire page has the full service details.
How many guest seats to book
Not every guest needs a seat. Before you ask for a quote, split your list into three groups:
- Guests staying at each hotel. Each hotel becomes a pick-up point with its own departure time.
- Guests who will drive to the ceremony but would rather not drive home. They only need a seat on the return.
- Guests flying in the day before. They need an airport transfer on arrival, separate from the wedding day.
For the return, request at least two departures. Suggest one around 1 a.m. for families with children. Suggest the last departure for the end of the party. We confirm availability for each departure before you book. Guests then avoid driving after the reception.
If a hotel sits on a narrow street in the old town, such as the Gothic Quarter or El Born, we agree a pick-up point on a nearby street where a coach can stop.
Children and car seats
Spain's General Traffic Regulations (article 117) set child restraint rules by vehicle size. Seat counts include the driver. In vehicles with up to nine seats, children 135 cm or shorter use an approved restraint. They normally sit in the rear seats, with limited legal exceptions.
In vehicles with more than nine seats, children aged three or older follow different rules. Those 135 cm or shorter use an approved restraint that fits their height and weight. If no suitable restraint is available, they use a seat belt that fits their height and weight.
Child seats are free if you request them when you book. Tell us each child's age, height and weight when you book.

Wedding areas near Barcelona: distances and roads
Many wedding masias and estates are in the Penedès wine country, the Maresme coast, the Montseny hills or the Empordà. These are the distances from Plaça de Catalunya in central Barcelona:
| Area | Reference town | Distance | Time without traffic | Main roads |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Penedès | Sant Sadurní d'Anoia | 46 km | 45 min | B-23 and AP-7 |
| Penedès | Vilafranca del Penedès | 54 km | 50 min | B-23 and AP-7 |
| Maresme | Arenys de Mar | 44 km | 40 min | Ronda Litoral and C-32 |
| Montseny | Sant Celoni | 51 km | 45 min | C-33 and AP-7 |
| Montseny | Viladrau | 79 km | 1 h 20 min | C-33, C-17 and GI-520 |
| Empordà | Begur | 131 km | 1 h 45 min | AP-7, C-65 and C-31 |
Leaving Barcelona on a Friday afternoon or coming back on a Sunday evening can take much longer, so we build slack into the schedule.
Penedès
Penedès estates tend to sit among vineyards a few kilometres off the AP-7, and the last stretch is often a farm track. Ask the venue whether a 55-seat coach can reach the entrance or has to drop guests at a car park nearby. From Barcelona-El Prat airport, Sant Sadurní is about 50 km.
Maresme
Arenys de Mar is about 40 minutes from Barcelona on the C-32. Some Maresme estates sit on the hillsides above the coast, with steep, narrow drives. There, a minibus is usually the practical choice.
Montseny
Montseny is a natural park, and UNESCO made it a biosphere reserve in 1978. Venues on the lower slopes, around Sant Celoni, are close to the AP-7. The road up to Viladrau is the GI-520, a winding mountain road. For the night-time return we allow extra time on that stretch, and a minibus is sometimes a better fit than a coach.
Empordà
Begur, Pals and Peratallada are close to two hours from Barcelona. If your guests stay near the venue, the day's transport links the local hotels with the ceremony and reception. For guests who fly in, Girona-Costa Brava airport is about 63 km from Begur, roughly an hour by car, compared with 147 km from Barcelona-El Prat.
Guests arriving by air
We meet guests at Barcelona-El Prat, Girona-Costa Brava or Reus with flight tracking and a name sign. Free waiting at the airport is 1 h 15 min from the moment the flight lands, even if it lands late. With a list of names, flight numbers and hotels, we group guests landing at similar times into a V-Class or a minibus. See our Barcelona airport transfers page for how the meeting works.
Planning timeline
- Once the date and venue are confirmed. Ask for a quote for the couple's car and an estimate for guest vehicles. Book early for a Saturday, because other couples may want the same vehicles that day.
- Two to three months before. Send the list of hotels with an approximate guest count for each. Ask the venue where coaches can enter and where they can wait.
- Three to four weeks before. Confirm the number of seats on each run and the return departure times. Send us the flights of guests coming from abroad.
- Wedding week. We send you the day's plan in writing, with every vehicle, time and address. Name a contact person for the day who is not you, such as a witness or your wedding planner.
- The day. The couple's chauffeur arrives before the agreed time. Coaches leave each hotel at the time set in the plan.
Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before each pick-up.
What to send for a quote
- Wedding date and the addresses of the ceremony and the reception.
- Rough schedule: couple's pick-up, ceremony start, arrival at the reception and finishing time.
- Hotels and the number of guests leaving from each.
- Number of children and their ages, if you need child seats.
- Flights of guests who need an airport transfer.
Message us on WhatsApp, call, email or use the booking form. We reply with a fixed price that includes tolls. You pay nothing to request a quote. Our team helps you in Spanish, Catalan, English and French. Tell us your preferred language when you book.
FAQ
How long does the couple's car wait during the ceremony?
With the hourly service, car and chauffeur wait for the whole time booked. On a simple transfer the courtesy wait is 15 minutes from the agreed time, and extra time is charged.
Can you reach a masia down a dirt track?
That depends on the track and the vehicle. Ask the venue whether a coach can get to the door. If it cannot, we use minibuses or drop guests at the access point the venue gives us.
Can guests go back to the hotel in the early hours?
Tell us your preferred return times before you book. We confirm availability for late departures.
Do you have limousines or classic cars?
No. For the couple we offer the Mercedes S-Class and the Mercedes E-Class, both with a chauffeur.
